About

Ruby on Rails in Pernambuco — April 21, starting at 9:40 AM.

On April 21, Recife welcomes another event: Abril Pro Ruby. This is a free event for lovers of technology and software development. The focus, of course, is the Ruby language. Conceived in 1993 by Yukihiro Matsumoto to be human-oriented, its guiding principles are simplicity, productivity and joy of use.

Come learn and exchange knowledge with other developers interested in strengthening Pernambuco's Ruby scene. The event also features talks on topics relevant across all platforms.

Talks

  • Leandro da Silva
  • Systems for the Real World

    Leandro da Silva, CIO, Locaweb

Many developers worry a lot about the static aspects of the systems they build — whether the code is pretty, idiomatic, follows a given style guide and so on; all the usual bullet points of good code design. That's all great, but it's not everything. There's still the real side of things: the Runtime. It's at runtime that ômis and mininus (Pernambuco slang for the seasoned old-timers and the rookies) really stand out. This talk is about what the ômis care about most when writing mission-critical systems — for the Real World, of course.

  • Of slaps and kisses: a love story between a programmer and Ruby on Rails

    Thiago Diniz, CEO, Eventick

With a strong background in software engineering and reuse, I picked Java EE as my web development language — but the platform's hassles eventually pushed me to drop it. That is when I discovered Rails: love at first sight, a blog in 5 minutes… except not everything is roses. It took me a while to realize that going from an app on the air to a real web service takes a lot more than 5 minutes.
